JSS Medical Institutions improve National Rankings in India

Bags 34th rank in NIRF; Medical College ranked 17; Pharmacy Colleges 8 and 10

Mysuru: “It is a matter of pride that JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) has topped the list among many medical educational institutions in the country by improving its rankings and even bettered the public funded institutions,” said Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

Addressing a press conference at a private hotel in the city yesterday, he said JSS AHER had jumped from 37th position to 34th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), announced by President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi on Apr.8. It is ranked 34 out of 1,479 Universities and 55 out of 4,867 overall institutions in India which had registered for NIRF 2019.

Similarly, JSS Medical College was ranked 17th out of 113 Medical Institutions/Colleges in India, he added.

In Pharmacy category, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, which ranked 15th in 2018 has improved its ranking and jumped to the eighth place among 301 Pharmacy colleges in the country, while JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, has managed to retain its tenth position since the last four years, he said.

JSS AHER Vice-Chancellor Dr. B. Suresh said that with the rankings the institution has achieved the responsibility increases to perform better as this is the report card that the institution has presented to the society. The stress will be laid on life sciences and health sciences to improve the rankings further, he added.

Rs.3 crore for cardio vascular research

JSS AHER will be setting up a Rs.3 crore Cardio Vascular research team to be headed by Chief Mentor Dr. B.M. Katoch, former Director of ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) consisting of a 50-member group of Professors, said Dr. Suresh.

Apart from this, JSS AHER will sign MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with 11 institutions shortly and also one of the largest Bio-Banks will be set up, he added.

Other achievements

The other achievements for the year 2019 includes JSS AHER being ranked 4th among all the private institutions in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA).

In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Ranking 2019, JSS AHER was ranked 101 out of 200 in overall rankings. These rankings are the only global performance tables that assess Universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, JSS AHER is ranked third in India among the top five higher education institutions nationally and ranked 64th in higher education institutions among emerging economies, said Dr. Betsurmath. JSS AHER Registrar Dr. B. Manjunatha, Director (Academics) Dr.P.A. Kushalappa and others were present.
