Mysuru: JSS Mysore Urban Haat will be hosting ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaar’ handicrafts exhibition for 10 days from Nov.17 to Nov. 26. The exhibition will be inaugurated today at 4 pm at the JSS Mysore Urban Haat in Hebbal by Dr. Rajvir Pratap Sharma, ADGP and Managing Director, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Bengaluru.
Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha will preside. S.P. Manjunath, Secretary-I, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, P. Shivashankar, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Mallikarjunaiah, Regional Director (Southern Region), Ministry of Textiles, Chennai, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director (P&D), JSS Technical Education Division and Sashidhar, Assistant Director, Handicraft Marketing and Service Extension Centre, Mysuru, will be the chief guests.
Craftsmen from all over the country are coming together to create an impressive line-up of beautiful crafts for Mysureans at the ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaar-2017’ being organised by Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi in association with JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru.
Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is hosted only in tier-I and II cities having more than 10 lakh population. Since Mysuru city is having more than 10 lakh population and is a tourist place, the Department is organising it every year at JSS Urban Haat.
Artisans will display a wide variety of craft categories including wood, clay, cloth, jewellery and metal. Some craftsmen use a combination of distinctive glazes, patterns and beautifully crafted pottery in their crafts, while others create functional and decorative crafts by hand-carving.
Craftsmen who are National and State awardees will present live demonstrations in art and craft-making and will display Kasuthi sarees, Tussar silk sarees, Kantha stitch sarees, Banaras sarees and dress materials, boutique sarees and dresses and Bengali cotton sarees. They will also display Kashmiri handlooms, woodcarving and furniture from Saharanpur, wood inlay, chicken embroidery, modern art murals, ceramics, Madhubani paintings, Rajasthani miniature paintings, Rajasthani embroidery and footwear, Gujarati dresses, dried flowers, a variety of leather items, various jute products, vegetable print dress materials, artificial and imitation jewellery and gem stone jewellery. Marble paintings, Karnataka silk sarees, Chennapattana toys and plenty of terracotta items among other handicraft and handlooms items will also be displayed. The expo will be open from 10 am to 9 pm daily and there is no entry or parking fee for visitors.
