JSS Sangeetha Sabha’s annual day concerts

On the occasion of its annual day and Basava Jayanti celebrations, JSS Sangeetha Sabha is conducting a 2-day musical concert at Navajyothi Auditorium in JSS Women’s College, Saraswathipuram, on June 21 and 22 at 6.30 pm.

June 21: Vocal concert by Dr. Shertally K.N. Renganatha Sharma. He will be accompanied by Vidu. Nalina Mohan on violin, Vid. Muruga Bhoopathi on mridanga and Vid. Shamith Gowda on ghata. This concert is in memory of Founding-Member and former Secretary of the Sabha, B.C. Rajagopal.

June 22: Vocal duet by Kanchana Sisters — Vidu. Kanchana S. Shriranjani and Vidu. Kanchana S. Shruthiranjani, accompanied by Vid. Udupi Srijith on violin, Vid. H.S. Sudheendra on mridanga and Vid. Sharath Kaushik on ghata.

PROFILES

Dr. Shertally K.N. Renganatha Sharma, retired Principal/ Associate Professor in Music, is an erudite scholar and a seasoned performing artiste.  He is an ‘A’ top grade artiste of AIR and has performed extensively, enthralling audiences across the globe with his sonorous voice. His renditions of Ragas, Kritis reflect the strict adherence to classicism of Karnatak music. 

His accomplishments include Central Government Scholarship for advanced training in music, Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar Memorial Award from Sri Ragam Fine Arts, Chennai (1995), ‘Asthana Vidwan’ conferred by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam (2007), Music Academy Award for Best Raga Alapana (2007) and Music Academy Award for Best Outstanding Vocalist Award (2010).

Kanchana Sisters — Vidu. Kanchana S. Shriranjani and Vidu. Kanchana S. Shruthiranjani — are among the most admired and sought-after duet vocalists and violinists in the classical music fraternity. They are part of the esteemed Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) panel of artistes and have been performing on prestigious platforms in India and abroad.

As Ambassadors of Indian classical music, Kanchana Sisters performed for World Village Festival in Finland, Estonia and Denmark during 2019, a tour sponsored by Embassy of India.

Besides being the toppers of their University in LLB degree, the sisters followed music as their passion and profession. Both earned 1st rank in ‘Vidwat’ degree in Karnatak Classical Vocal and Violin from the State Government of Karnataka and are ‘A’ graded artistes in  AIR.

They have also earned multiple senior performer scholarships for music from Central Government — Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and other private organisations.
