JSS Sangeetha Sabha’s unique musical treat this weekend

JSS Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru, has organised two interesting musical programmes this weekend at Navajyoti auditorium in JSS Women’s College, Saraswathipuram.

On May 11 (Saturday), as part of its Annual Day celebrations, there is a special concert and interaction by the legendary mridanga maestro,  Vid. Karaikudi Mani on ‘Importance of Tala and Laya Nuances’ along with the highly-talented Vid. Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna and Vid. Kolkata Aravind.

Considered one of the all-time greats, Guru Karaikudi Mani, who received his first National Award at the age of 18, from the then President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, is also a proud Sangeeth Natak Academy National awardee. He is well-known for his ‘Thani Avarthanam’ concerts, where two percussion instruments perform solo, without any other ‘shruthi’ support like vocal/ violin. He has collaborated with many a great western musicians and has innovated a lot.

On May 12 (Sunday), as part of Basava Jayanti celebrations, a unique concert titled ‘Vachana-Pravachana’ by Vid. K.V. Krishna Prasad is being held.

Born into a family of music lovers, Krishna Prasad is currently under the tutelage of Gana Kala Bhushana Vid. R.K. Padmanabha. He has carved a niche for himself as a powerful and yet graceful performer.

He is being accompanied by Vid. Vishwajith Mattur on violin, Vid. S. Ashok on mridanga and Vid. Sharath Koushik on ghata.
