Mysuru: The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) successfully conducted three-day Professional Development Programme (PDP) on Semiconductor Technology on the topic “Scaling the Future: Trends and Challenges in Semiconductor Technology.”
The 3-day programme provided professional insights into emerging trends in semiconductor technology, including fabrication, characterisation, miniaturisation, design, manufacturing and packaging, while fostering collaboration, innovation and technical expertise.
It serves as a platform for industry professionals, academicians and researchers to exchange knowledge on advancements and challenges in the field.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. U.B. Mahadevaswamy, Professor and Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, who provided an overview of the programme and its significance.
Dr. A.N. Santosh Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, JSS STU, delivered an insightful talk on trends and challenges in semiconductor technologies, emphasising the need for sustainable advancements in the field.
Dr. B. Suresh, Director, Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, addressed the audience on rapid technological advancements and urged professionals to align themselves with the evolving landscape. He emphasised the importance of preparedness for the exciting journey of technological evolution.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr. Navakanta Bhat, Dean, Interdisciplinary Science and Professor, CeNSE, IISc Bengaluru.
His speech traced the evolution of technology from vacuum tubes to the silicon revolution, shedding light on the inefficiencies of current AI hardware compared to the human brain, which remains the ultimate seat of computation and inference.
He provided a compelling perspective on India’s aspirations in semiconductor technology and its role in national progress.
The event was graced by Dr. C. Nataraju, Principal & Dean (Engineering and Technology), JSS STU, Mysuru and Prof. (Dr.) S.A. Dhanaraj, Registrar, JSS STU, who encouraged participants to leverage the knowledge gained from the programme for future technological contributions.
