Mysuru: City-based Helping Hands Jain Youth Organisation will be celebrating completion of five years of its Messenger of Peace Project “Kabutar Daan Project” tomorrow. To mark the occasion, the members have organised a programme on Jan. 1, 2020 at 6.15 am at Kabutar Daan venue near North Gate of Mysore Palace wherein Pigeons will be fed.

It all started five years back when four members of Helping Hands — Rajan Baghmar, Anand Patwa, Mahaveer Dhoka and Goutham Patwa — during their early morning walk were inspired by the Hyderabad tourist who started this initiative.

They fed pigeons with maize, jowar, wheat, fried gram and other grains. Today there are nearly 28 members who gather in front of Kote Anjenayaswamy Temple at 5.45 am, clean the place and then feed the pigeons with food grains.

It started off with about 50 kgs of food grains and now gradually increased to 300 kgs every day. Pragathi Prathisthan has honoured Helping Hands with “Pride of Mysore Award” for this project.

Members of general public also celebrate birthday, anniversary and other occasions by feeding pigeons with food grains.

Helping Hands is also feeding pigeons at Sri Stanakvasi Jain Stanak Bhavan in Halladkeri where pigeons are fed twice a week. Those who want to celebrate any occasion with the Messengers of Peace may contact Mahaveer Khabiya on Mob: 98453-62789  or Rajan Baghmar on Mob:98451-13334.
