Kalasourabha Music School to present ‘Venu-Gaana-Nritya Sambrama’

Kalasourabha – School of Music, has organised a unique cultural programme titled ‘Venu-Gaana-Nritya’ tomorrow (Dec. 15) at Ganabharathi, Veene Seshanna Bhavana, Kuvempunagar, in city starting at 10.30 am.

Sangeetha Kala Ratna Vidushi Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar will be the chief guest.

The ‘Venu-Gaana-Nritya’ programme will feature performances by the following talented budding artistes: Bharatavarsha K. Adidam – Flute, Bhoomi – Vocal, Srilalitha – Violin and Bhuvan Ravishankar – Mridanga.

Following this, there will be an enlightening lecture-demonstration accompanied by a dance performance by Dr. Pavitra, centred on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s ‘Sri Ramayana Darshanam.’

Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar is a distinguished Karnatak Classical vocalist, renowned teacher and the Founder of the ‘Surabhi Gana Kalamandira Charitable Trust,’ an esteemed music organisation that has flourished under her guidance for the past 37 years.

In 2001, she was awarded a Ph.D from University of Mysore for her pioneering research on ‘Contributions of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar towards Karnatak Classical Music,’ under the mentorship of Prof. Vid. Vijayaraghavan and Vid. V. Nanjundaswamy.

Dr. Sukanya has performed at prestigious platforms, including the Madras Music Academy, Chennai, Gayana Samaja, Ganakala Parishad and several renowned Sabhas.

She has also conducted workshops and performed concerts at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London, on two occasions. An A-Top graded artiste of All India Radio (Akashvani), she is revered for her contributions to the propagation of Karnatak music worldwide.

Dr. Pavitra is a remarkable personality, embodying a perfect blend of hard work and talent, with exceptional achievements in both science and the arts. She excelled academically, scoring an outstanding 98% in science during her PUC and securing the second rank in Karnataka in the Bharatanatyam Vidwat Exam at just 17 years of age.

Dr. Pavitra pursued her MBBS at Mysore Medical College and completed her MD in Psychiatry at the prestigious NIMHANS, where she earned numerous Fellowships, awards and accolades, showcasing her intellectual brilliance.

Her versatility extends beyond medicine, as she has successfully excelled as a doctor, researcher, choreographer, artiste, teacher and organiser.

She is the Founder of Sri Vijayakalaniketana, an institution dedicated to nurturing fine arts. Driven by her belief in the transformative power of art, her guiding principle is: “Fine arts purify the mind.” Dr. Pavitra has seamlessly intertwined her passion for psychiatry and Bharatanatyam, contributing significantly      to both fields.

Notably, her innovative project, ‘Field of Dance – World of Literature,’ has brought Kannada Kavyas into the realm of dance, captivating audiences and enriching the  cultural landscape.

Her journey continues to inspire, as she bridges the worlds of science and art with unwavering dedication and creativity.
