Mysuru: Seshadripuram Degree College, Hebbal, Mysuru, in association with the IQAC and NSS Unit, took an active initiative to clean the historic Kalyani at Doddamaragowdanahalli in Yelwal, Mysuru district, recently.
Around 42 NSS volunteers actively participated in the cleaning drive. The Kalyani, which is more than 200 years old, had been completely covered with weeds, unwanted trees and other overgrown vegetation.
The volunteers undertook the task of clearing the accumulated weeds and unwanted plants and restoring the surroundings of the historic water structure.
The cleaning work was carried out with the support and cooperation of local youth leaders, whose assistance played an important role in making the Shramadan programme successful.
The initiative reflected the spirit of community service and environmental responsibility among the students and helped create awareness about preserving local heritage, water conservation and public spaces.
The programme was witnessed by P.R. Gurumurthy Bhat, NSS Programme Officer, Muruli, Assistant Programme Officer, Sathyanarayan, Helper, along with villagers and local youth leaders, including Mohan, M.N. Basappa, Sashikumar, Prathap, Gagan and Abhishek; R. Kiran, Alumnus, Seshadripuram Degree College, according to a press release from Dr. K. Sowmya Erappa, Principal.
