Kanaka Jayanti on Nov.18

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dr. P. Shivaraju said that the District Administration will be organising ‘Saint Poet Sri Kanakadasa Jayanti’ on Nov.18 at 12.30 pm, at the premises of Kalamandira in the city.

He was speaking at the preliminary meeting held recently at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office auditorium to discuss the preparations with regard to Jayanti celebrations.

Chairing the meeting, Dr. Shivaraju said that Sri Kanakadasa who preached equality to the world is a great philosopher and it is our duty to celebrate his birth anniversary in a grand manner.

“The Jayanti will be celebrated as per the Government protocol. Officials must take steps to celebrate the function in a meaningful way. The facilities like drinking water should be provided, besides ensuring cleanliness and arrangement of pandal and other basic amenities at the venue by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials,” said ADC Dr. Shivaraju at the meeting.

Chairman of Kanakadasa Jayanti Celebrations Committee and former MLA M.K. Somashekar, who spoke at the meeting, said that the Jayanti will be held for two days on Nov.18 and 19.

“A procession has been organised from the premises of Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple in Mysore Palace North Gate on Nov.18 at 9.30 am. A total of five tableaux and more than 20 art troupes will participate in the procession. On Nov.19 evening, felicitation programme and other cultural functions will be held at Kalamandira,” Somashekar added.

Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Dr. M.D. Sudarshan, who spoke at the meeting, said that a musical programme will be organised on the occasion and sought the co-operation of the Committee members.
