Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra said “The thinkings of Saint Kanakadasa should be popularised further and hence Kanakadasa Jayanti will be meaningfully celebrated under the aegis of Kanakadasa Jayantotsava Committee on Nov. 30 in the city.”
Presiding over the preliminary meeting organised at D. Devaraj Urs hall of Mysuru Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday, the DC said “A procession will be taken out from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple premises to Kalamandira on Kanaka Jayanti day. State-level cultural troupes, district-level troupes and tableaux are expected to take part in the procession this time. Even Chief Minister Siddharamaiah is expected to be a part of the event. So, the programme will be organised on a grand scale.”
Before flagging off the procession, puja will be performed to the portrait of Kanakadasa near Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple. Police band, keerthan and bhajan teams are also expected to take part in the procession, he said.
Barring the exterior of programme venue, permission will not be given to erect flex boards in any public places that would mar the beauty of the city, asserted DC Dr. Rajendra.
The office-bearers of Kanakadasa Jayantotsava Committee also shared their plans to hold several other programmes like staging of a drama on Kanakadasa, release of audio discs, felicitation to achievers, prathibha puraskar to students, honouring Rajyotsava awardees and recital of keerthans.
President of Kanakadasa Jayantotsava Committee and former MLA M.K. Somashekar, office-bearers K. Marigowda, M. Puttaswamy, M. Shivanna, B. Subramanya, J.J. Anand, T.B. Chikkanna, Papanna, Dollegowda, M. Mahadevegowda and others attended the meeting.
Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.M. Gayathri, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ashaad-Ur-Rahman Shariff, Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Dr. M.D. Sudarshan were present.
