Kannada Book Fair from Oct. 11 to 20

Mysuru: A 10-day ‘Mysuru Dasara Kannada Book Book Fair’ with discount sales has been organised at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Grounds here from Oct. 11 to 20.

Announcing this at a press meet at Kalamandira premises in city, Karnataka Book Authority Chairman Dr. Manasa said, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi will inaugurate the Book Fair.

Stating that around 70 publishers are expected to participate, with 90 stalls being set up, he said that new books would be released every morning, while cultural programmes, including ‘Selfie with Sahiti,’ would be held in the evenings.

Events’ schedule

Oct. 12: 12 books published by the Karnataka Book Authority will be released.

Oct. 13: ‘Bhavageethe’ by Amma Ramachandra.

Oct. 14: ‘Nanna Mechchina Pustaka Odu’ (Reading My Favourite Book) programme by students of Yuvaraja’s College.

Oct. 15: Folk songs by Sabbanahalli Raju and troupe.

Oct. 16: ‘Kavigoshti’ and ‘Kuncha, Kavya Gayana’ programme organised by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Lalitakala Academy and KSN Trust.

Oct. 17: Theatre songs by students of Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music University.

Oct. 18: ‘Kanaka Keerthane-Tatvapada’ by C.M. Narasimhamurthy & B. Basavaraju and troupe from Chamarajanagar.

Oct. 19: ‘Devi Mahatme’ Moodalapaya Yakshagana presentation by A.N. Thimmaiah from Tumakuru.

Like previous years, a Book Chariot will be launched to publicise the Book Fair.

The venue for the cultural programmes has been named ‘Rashtrakavi G.S. Shivarudrappa Samskrutika Vedike.’ Entrance arches, named after noted novelist C.N. Muktha and former Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal, both of whom passed away recently, will also be erected at the venue.

‘Recite a Poem, Get a Plant’

A new initiative, ‘Kavite Vaachisi, Gida Gittisi’ (Recite a Poem, Get a Plant) will be organised every day. Interested poets can recite their poems and receive a sapling.

Kannada and Culture Joint Director Nirmala Mathapati, Mysuru District Library Dy. Director Suma B. Kodihalli, Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) Director Prof. Nanjaiah Honganur, Kannada Book Authority Administrative Officer K.B. Kiran Singh, Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat former President M. Chandrashekar and Maharaja’s College Professor Parashuram were present.
