Mysuru: Maintaining that Kannada Sahitya Parishat has lost its autonomy after falling into the grip of the Government, actor ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru, who is also the past Chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA), said that the ongoing Kannada Literary Meet in city has got politicised.
Speaking to SOM over phone, Chandru opined that the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana seems to have forgotten its objective with politicisation of the meet.
Expressing concern over possible misuse of funds granted by the Government for the literary meet, he said that in the past Sahitya Sammelanas were purposeful, even without Government funding.
Expressing displeasure over politicians appearing in large numbers on the dais, Chandru said the entire event seemed more like a political gathering rather than the literary meet.
Pointing out that he would however thank the Chief Minister for highlighting Kannada issues during his (CM) speech, he appealed the CM to organise the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sammelana only once in three years.
Accusing the Kannada Sahitya Parishat of appeasing the Government for funds, he alleged that the ongoing meet does not seem to care for anyone.
Alleging lack of co-ordination between the organisers and the District Administration, he asserted that such meets do not contribute much for the development of land and language.
Most of the resolutions taken in the past meets have not been implemented he said and reiterated that it would be better to hold such meets once in three years.
Taking exception to the meet Chairman Prof. Chandrashekar Patil’s (Champa) political rhetoric in his (Champa) speech, Chandru said Patil may have made such speech only to please the Chief Minister.
