Mysuru: Members of Kannada Vigilance Committee visited the MCC Zonal offices on Thyagaraja Road, in Jayanagar and Sharadadevinagar here yesterday to ensure the usage of Kannada as the administrative language.
The members scrutinised the documentations, seals, forms and attendance books. Seeing the application forms filled in English, they urged the officers to insist the applicants to fill forms in Kannada and asked the staff to assist the applicants if the latter were not knowing Kannada. They also instructed the officers to ensure that signboards of shops are in Kannada covering 70% of the board area which should be applicable to malls also.
Speaking to press persons, Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa observed that English signboards had increased drastically in city and added that the committee was urging to reverse the trend and introduce Kannada effectively.
Committee Member M. Chandrashekar expressed happiness over complete usage of Kannada in administration at MCC Zonal offices but regretted that it was not so in commercial establishments. He asked MCC to follow rules strictly while issuing licences to shops.
Committee Members Rajashekar Kadamba, Abu Mohammed, M.B. Vishwanath, Sujatha Akki, MCC Revenue Deputy Commissioner T.B. Kumara Nayak and others were present.
