Karaga Mahotsava from May 4

Mysore/Mysuru: The historical Mysuru Karaga Mahotsava (98th year), organised by Ittigegud’s Sri Renukadevi Karaga Temple Trust, will take place from May 4 to 8.

The Mahotsava will start with the performance of Abisheka at 6 am on May 4, following which a procession will be taken out from Ittigegud’s Nagalakshmi temple, where all the associated rituals will be performed. Later, the Karaga will be taken to Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hill and subsequently brought to Kote Mariyamma temple in the city, where the rituals will be held in accordance with the custom. The Utsava will be held on all the days from May 4 to 7 as per the usual tradition and practise.

The grand Karaga procession will be taken out from Renukadevi temple premises starting at 8 pm on May 7 and will pass through Palace Office road, Chamaraja Double road, N.S. road, Shivarampet, Sayyaji Rao road, Mission Hospital road, Kabir road, Kalammagudi temple road, Irwin road, Kurubageri, Kumbarageri, Ashoka road, Nazarbad and Mysuru Zoo road, before returning to the temple premises at 9 am the next day morning (May 8). The procession will be accompanied by a host of cultural troupes, folk troupes and Band Set,.
