Karnatak and Hindustani Music Jugalbandi on Sept. 24

Mysore/Mysuru: Gayana Sabha, Mysore, has organised a duet music performance by renowned instrumentalists Vidu. Geetha Ramanand on veena and Sameer Rao on bansuri on Sunday (Sept. 24) at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar from 6 pm onwards. Geetha will be accompanied by Adamya Ramanand on mridanga while Sameer Rao will be accompanied by Adarsh Shenoy on tabla.

Vidu. Geetha Ramanand is a top grade veena artiste of the All India Radio and Doordarshan. She has been actively involved in the field of Karnatak classical music for over 50 years.

A Master’s degree holder in Music from the Fine Arts College, Mysore University, Geetha had the privilege of receiving guidance from veterans like Vid. R.N. Doreswamy, Prof. R. Vishweshwaran, Vidu. V. Lalitha and Vidu. A.S. Padma.

She has been honoured with many awards and titles — Vainika Brahma, Swarabhooshani, Veenavaadana Kalaabhooshana, Naada Kalashri, to name a few. Geetha served AIR for 35 years and retired as Programme Executive in 2011.

Sameer Rao, one of the most promising and prominent disciples of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, began his musical journey at the age of 11. Trained by Panditji himself in Guru-Shishya Parampara at Vrindavan Gurukul, Mumbai, he has performed in India and abroad. An ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and Doordarshan, Sameer is a recipient of ‘Surmani”, “Nada Kishore’, ‘Yuva Prathibha’ and many more awards.
