Karnataka Housing Board Scam: Bail plea adjourned to Dec. 23

Mysuru: The 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court yesterday adjourned its judgement with regard to the bail plea of the five accused in the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) scam to tomorrow (Dec. 23).

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which is entrusted with the task of probing the scam, had arrested M.B. Somashekar and M. Mahesh of KHB and three middlemen Jnaneshwar, Vijayakumar and N.B. Vasu.

The counsel for the accused on Wednesday had filed a bail petition before the Court. The judge, who heard the arguments, reserved his judgement to Dec. 23.

According to the FIR in the KHB scam, 46 persons have been named in it and the ACB had procured a search warrant to check the KHB office in city, but could not find any incriminating documents, said a source.

The case which was being probed by the then Lokayukta, was transferred to the ACB recently and the ACB on Dec. 18 registered a case and had submitted a chargesheet to the Court besides arresting the five accused.

The accused were produced before a Court and the two KHB officials were taken into two-day custody by the ACB for further interrogation and were later handed over to judicial custody.
