Karnataka Lalithakala Academy: Dr. Moily to open Art Expo at B’luru today

Hon. Awards to be presented tomorrow

Mysuru:  The week-long 47th annual art expo, organised by Karnataka Lalithakala Academy, Bengaluru, at Chitrakala Parishat in Bengaluru, will be inaugurated today (Oct.4) at  4.30 pm by Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, New Delhi.

Dr. B.L. Shankar, President, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, and S.G. Vasudev, senior artist, Bengaluru, will be the chief guests. Prof. M.J. Kamalakshi, Chairperson, Karnataka Lalithakala Academy, will preside.

The expo will be open from 11 am to 7 pm at Gallery No.3 and No. 4 till Oct.10.

HONORARY AWARDS

The Karnataka Lalithakala Academy Honorary Awards will be presented to three artists — S.M. Jambukeshwara (Mysuru), Madhu Desai (Dharwad) and Radhakrishna Upadhyaya Moodubelle (Udupi) — at a programme to be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru on Oct.5 at 6 pm.

Jnanpith awardee Dr. Chandrashekara Kambara, Chairman, Kendra Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, will present the awards. Dr. V.G. Andani, Secretary, The Ideal Fine Art Society, Kalaburagi and N.R. Vishu Kumar, Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, will be the chief guests. Prof. M.J. Kamalakshi will preside.

Awardees’ Profile

Senior Photographer, artist, journalist and writer S.M. Jambukeshwara passed out from Chamarajendra Technical Institute and also developed interest in photography. He has won national and international recognition in photography. He was conferred Rajyotsava Award- 2010.

Madhu Desai, a freelance artist based in Dharwad, had his art education in Dharwad and Bengaluru. Through his NGO ‘Kalamandala,’ he has been doing art activities to promote contemporary art.

Radhakrishna Upadhyaya Moodubelle, the renowned  Drawing Teacher of Government Composite High School, Volakadu, Udupi, was conferred “Best Teacher National Award-2012” by the President of India.
