Mysore/Mysuru: The Devaraja Sub-Division Police had organised an awareness programme at MMC&RI Platinum Jubilee Hall in J.K. Grounds yesterday for owners of various commercial establishments on Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act-2017 and the Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Rules, 2018.
ACP M.N. Shashidhar said that the public safety rules are applicable to all commercial establishments, industrial establishments, religious places, educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, railway and bus stations and places of an organised congregation where more than 100 people gather at a time or more than 500 people frequent per day. Pointing out that owners of these establishments should compulsorily install CCTV cameras, door frame metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors, baggage scanners etc., for the safety of the public and staff, he said that the owners should see to it that the CCTV cameras are installed at entry and exit points, parking lot and a camera be projected towards the road covering 50 yards as it would help in the prevention and detection of crime.
Stating that violation of the Act is a serious offence, ACP Shashidhar said that the owners of commercial establishments should ensure that the CCTV footage is stored for a minimum of six months. Cameras have to be installed in such a way that it covers the approach areas at the entry and exit points and also the entry and exit points of parking lots. Anyone found violating the Act will be fined Rs. 5,000 for the first time, Rs. 10,000 for the second offence and if the violation continues, that particular establishment would be shut down, he added.
The owner or manager of an establishment must periodically certify to the Police that the public safety measures have been installed and are in proper working condition. The establishment must bear the cost of providing public safety measures. These steps are necessary to be taken as Dasara is just a month away, he noted.
