Deota Snehil of Bengaluru with 5.5 points from six rounds and M. Tulsi of Mysuru with 5 points from 6 rounds, won the U-17 Open (Boys) and U-17 Girls titles respectively on the concluding day of the Karnataka State U-17 Open (Boys) and Girls Chess Championships-2017 conducted by the MDCA under the aegis of UKCA at the University Gymnasium Hall here yesterday.
Ithal H.L. Rajath of Bengaluru with 5 points from six rounds (progressive score of 23) secured the second place in the boys section and was followed by young Arnav Muralidhar of Mysuru, with 5 points from six rounds (progressive score of 19.5) who took the third place.
In the girls section, M. Tulsi and Swati Bhat of Dakshina Kannada secured 5 points each but on the former’s better tie-break score of 19.5 to the latter’s 17.5 helped Tulsi to clinch the title. Bhagyashree G. Patil of Bengaluru with 4.5 points from six rounds secured third place.
In the boys section, Deota Snehil and Ithal Rajath earned selection to represent Karnataka in the U-17 Nationals, while in the U-17 girls, Tulsi and Swathi qualified to represent the State in the National Championships.
The prizes to the winners were given away by Dr. C. Krishna, Chief Patron, MDCA and Y.G. Vijayeendra, former State Chess Champion.
