Star this week: Talented Chess Player: M. Tulsi

Myuru is known for producing talented chess players from time to time. City’s M. Tulsi won the U-17 girls title in the Karnataka State U-17 Girls Chess Championships-2017, conducted by the Mysore District Chess Association under the aegis of the UKCA at the Gymnasium Hall, University of Mysore, on Sept. 1 & 2. She is our ‘Star This Week.’

Tulsi tied with Swati Bhat of Dakshina Kannada by securing 5 points from six rounds but her better progressive tie break score of 19.5 to the latter’s 17.5, helped her to clinch the title. However, both Tulsi and Swati will represent Katnataka in the National U-17 Chess Championships for Girls to be held at Coimbatore on Oct. 20.

Tulsi had wins over Dhruthi Murgod, A. Harshini, Prasiddhi Bhat, Ishani Bhat and had draws against Priyanka Narayan & Khushi M. Hombal.

Tulsi, supported by her parents and Mysore Chess Centre, has been making steady progress in her game and has gained valuable points taking part in the recently concluded 44th National Women’s Challengers Chess Championships conducted by Mysore Chess Centre at Kanteerava Sports Club in Mysuru. Tulsi has a rating of 1658 at present.
