Mysore/Mysuru: A man from Kerala was arrested in Mysuru last Sunday for allegedly recording videos of religious places and prominent landmarks without official permission, raising suspicion among law enforcement agencies. The incident occurred in the Narasimharaja (NR) Police limits.
The man, identified as P.K. Mohammad, was reportedly seen capturing videos near temples, churches, mosques and important public buildings in a suspicious manner.
NR Police, who were on patrol as part of heightened security measures during the final day of Muharram, noticed him filming near a prayer hall in NR Mohalla and detained him for questioning.
A security case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with preventive actions against individuals suspected of potentially unlawful activities.
Mohammad was produced before a Magistrate and remanded to Judicial Custody. He was released on bail two days later after he furnished a security bond.
During the interrogation, Mohammad reportedly told the Police that he was an avid photographer with a passion for capturing beautiful and significant locations. He denied any intent to send the footage to external parties or use it for malicious purposes.
NR Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar confirmed that a detailed check of Mohammad’s camera and laptop revealed no incriminating or harmful content. However, his actions were considered suspicious since he was filming sensitive sites alone and without obtaining prior permission from authorities. “As a precautionary measure, a security case was filed. No evidence suggesting destructive intent was found,” said Inspector Talawar.
While Mohammad has been released, the Police have cautioned the public and photographers to avoid filming around sensitive areas without proper authorisation.
