Kidnap and sexual assault: City Court sentences youth to 10 years jail

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s Special POCSO Court has sentenced a 24-year-old youth to 10 years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 25,000 after he was found guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The convict is Sandesh, a resident of Hootagalli in city. Sandesh was accused of kidnapping a 17-year-old girl on June 4, 2016, confining her illegally at a house of a person known to him at Koorgalli, where he had sexually assaulted the girl till Sept. 8, 2016. 

A case in this regard was registered at Vijayanagar Police Station and the Cops had submitted a chargesheet to the Court.

Judge Shayma Khamroz, who took up the hearing, heard the arguments from both sides and found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him besides imposing the fine.

Attempt to rape: Man sentenced to 3 years jail

In another case, a 30-year-old man, who had attempted to sexually assault a 10-year-old specially abled girl, has been sentenced to three years jail and a fine of Rs. 20,000 has been imposed on him.

The incident had taken place in Saragur and the convict is Chikkanna alias Bettaiah. On Dec. 19, 2013, the accused lured the girl, who was playing with other children near the Backward Classes Hostel in Saragur in the pretext of getting her snacks, took her to the old toilet complex of the hostel, where he tried to                 sexually assault her.

As the girl began to scream, one Rajanna and Nanjundaiah, rushed to the spot and rescued the girl and a complaint was lodged at Saragur Police Station. 

The Police, who had registered a case, arrested the accused and had submitted the charge-sheet to the Court.

The Judge, who took up the case, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing the fine. 

The Judge has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to provide a compensation of Rs. 50,000 to the girl.

Special Public Prosecutor S. Pushpalatha argued on behalf of the Government in both the cases.
