Madikeri: A soldier from Kodagu sustained critical injuries in a tragic accident involving a military vehicle that plunged into a 350-foot ravine in the Balnoi area of Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Dec. 24 at around 5.30 pm. Five soldiers died and five others sustained injuries.
The injured soldier, 28-year-old Divin from Aluru Siddapur in Somwarpet taluk, is currently undergoing treatment at the Srinagar Army Hospital. His condition remains critical.
The Indian Army has informed his family about the incident, and his mother, Jaya, is travelling to Srinagar to be by his side. Further updates on his health are awaited upon her arrival.
Divin, the only son of his parents, has been serving in the Indian Army for the past 10 years. He was recently engaged, with his wedding planned for February 2025.
The accident took place when the vehicle, belonging to the 11 Madras Light Infantry (11 MLI), was en route from Nilam Headquarters to Balnoi Ghora Post. According to reports, the vehicle plunged approximately 350 feet into a steep gorge near its destination.
Upon receiving the information, the Quick Reaction Team of 11 MLI rushed to the site to conduct rescue operations. The injured personnel were provided immediate medical assistance and were evacuated for advanced treatment.
