Mysuru: A youth from Kodagu was killed in an accident near Davanagere this morning when his car veered off the road.
He has been identified as Ammekanda Ashwath from Virajpet.
According to initial reports reaching Star of Mysore office, 40-year-old Ashwath was travelling along with Mapanamada Cariappa in his i20 car (KA-12-MA-3986) when the vehicle collided with a goods tempo. The accident occurred at around 6.30 am at Halakanaadu Cross (Pandahalli) near Chennagiri.
Reports said that the accident occurred while the car was avoiding a collision with a buffalo that was crossing the road. Cariappa too was injured in the accident and he is in a state of shock. He has been admitted to a hospital and is recuperating.
Local villagers managed to extricate the injured Cariappa from the mangled front portion of the car and rush him to a hospital. Ashwath was killed on the spot.
Ashwath was proceeding towards Virajpet after finishing a company meeting in Davanagere. Local villagers, who were at the spot, could not identify the victim and with the available documents on the accident victims, Ashwath and Cariappa were traced to Virajpet where someone was contacted.
The news was spread on social media by a journalist in Mysuru who was informed about the accident by his friend in Virajpet.
The journalist immediately sent his Davanagere reporter to the spot and the latter made all the arrangements till some of the family members arrived.
Relatives have been informed about the accident and they are rushing to Davanagere. Further details are awaited.
