Konkani Christian Assn. celebrates Nativity of Mother Mary and Harvest Feast

Mysore/Mysuru: The Konkani Christian Association (KCA), Mysuru, celebrated the Nativity of Blessed Mother Mary and Harvest Feast on Sept. 10 at the Konkan Bhavan in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage. The programme commenced with the offering of flowers to the infant Mary and the blessing of sheaves of grain which were brought in procession for the Konkani Thanksgiving Mass at 9.30 am.

The main celebrant Carmelite Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, along with 8 other priests from different congregations, concelebrated the High Mass. Rev. Fr. Archibald highlighted the childhood of Blessed Mary and gave examples from Her life to emulate the Holy Family. At the end of the ceremony, sheaves of grain were distributed to  the congregation.

On the occasion, ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ was presented to 30 meritorious students for their performance in various fields. Rev Fr. Charles Serrao felicitated the students with the Certificate of Achievement, shawl, garland and memento.

MLA K. Harishgowda and Aishwarya Foundation-Mysuru President Gopalswamy were the chief guests.

On the occasion, KCA submitted a memorandum to the MLA who in turn assured the community in catering to their need. The MLA, who was honoured with a fruit basket, garland, shawl and Mysore Peta, applauded the unity and oneness of the community and stressed on enhancing the cultural development of the Association.

KCA President John William D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The report was read by General Secretary Joyce Sequeira. Assistant Secretary Sylvester D’Mello read out the list of ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ students. Treasurer Anil Saldanha proposed a vote of thanks. Vice-President Meena Dias compered    the programme.

Around 500 Konkani residents of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Mandya districts attended the celebrations.
