KPCC President’s post: 3 names suggested to High Command

Bengaluru: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal has sent a list of names to the Congress High Command for the post of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President.

According to party sources, Venugopal, who met Rahul Gandhi here on May 12, has suggested the names of Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil, former Minister S.R. Patil and Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar for the KPCC President’s post.

It may be recalled here that after holding a series of talks with the party leaders in Bengaluru from May 9, Venugopal had promised a complete organisational revamp by May end.

Venugopal and AICC secretaries Manickam Tagore, P.C. Vishnunath, Madhu Goud Yaskhi and Sake Sailajanath camped in Bengaluru for three days and interacted with leaders and Legislators seeking their opinion on several issues.

On the reports that Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, M. Mallikarjun Kharge will be made the KPCC President, party sources ruled out the possibility. Since the High Command has so far not decided whether to relieve him of the current responsibility of  leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, his name is not in consideration for the State unit President, said sources.

Venugopal is also learnt to have brought to the High Command’s notice that there is lack of co-ordination between incumbent KPCC President Dr. G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddharamaiah.

Venugopal also said that the Government and the party were not concurring on many issues and the old Congress leaders felt alienated, sources said.
