KRRS oppose amendments to Land Acquisition Act, 2013

Mysuru: Urging the State Government to withdraw the recent amendments made to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, nearly hundred members of Mysuru Taluk Units of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), Swaraj India, DSS and other organisations staged a demonstration at the Vegetable Market along M.G. Road in city this morning.

Stating that the Act, introduced by the then Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government at the Centre in 2013, was aimed at providing fair compensation and resettlement of land loser farmers, the protesters maintained that the recent amendments made to the Act by the State Government defeated the very purpose which the Act was introduced and was detrimental to the interests of farmers. Claiming that the amendments will do more harm to the farmers than benefit them, the protesters urged the Government to repeal the amendments in the better interests of the farming community.
