Mysuru, June 6 – Karnataka Rashtra Samithi (KRS) Party, alleging fraud tuning up to crores of rupees at Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), has written letters to the Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka and other senior officials to initiate action against those involved, said KRS Party State Organising Secretary Ravikumar yesterday.

Addressing the media persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city, Ravikumar said that the party would soon also file a complaint with Lokayukta adding that while CESC had failed to provide quality electrical converters and electricity supply for the farmers and general public, it had been increasing the tariffs every year citing losses.

“The CESC officials have also colluded with private electrical contractors in systematically looting the tax amount. According to Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (KTPP) Act, 1999, it is mandatory to invite tender through State e-Procurement portal for any purchases to be made above Rs. 5 lakh. However, the senior officials at the CESC, violating the norms, have purchased 2,693 electrical converters worth crores of rupees from eight different private companies,” Ravikumar alleged.

Further, the KRS Party has accused K.M. Munigopal Raju, former Managing Director (MD) of CESC, of flouting the rules and regulations to award the tender for supply of electrical converters to Aadhya Group, owned by K.M. Supreeth Raj, son of Munigopal Raju.

They also alleged that Munigopal Raju has submitted a false written statement to Lokayukta Investigating Officer stating that he had no connection with Aadhya Group. “However, in one of the official agreement, Supreeth Raj has clearing mentioned Munigopal Raju as his father for which J. Honnamma, Munigopal Raju’s wife, has signed as a witness,” said Ravikumar, who claimed to have the documentary evidence.

Ravikumar also alleged that administrative machineries and officials transfer had been used for smooth passing of the bills for purchases done violating rules. “Despite a rule that no prompt officials should be transferred during Dasara, Anitha (Executive Engineer) was transferred from N.R. Mohalla Division to Kollegal Division for a period of three months (20.7.2024 to 23.10.2024). Following the passing of bills illegally, she was transferred back to the original place. Similarly, an officer named Pradeep was stopped from reporting to the duty for a period of two months in Chamarajanagar and in his place J. Ramachandra, a close associate of Munigopal Raju, was brought in temporarily for passing the bills and illegally transferring crores of rupees,” he said.

The KRS Party, which has demanded action against those involved in corruption and cancellation of purchases done against the norms, has also alleged that the officials had been given costly gifts during a private farewell event to Munigopal Raju, who has been accused of corruption.

Nagaraju, Ravindra and Ravi were present at the press meet.
