Mysore/Mysuru: Thanking the elected representatives, the University faculty, staff and all others concerned, for the city-based KSOU (Karnataka State Open University)getting a high rank from the UGC in recognition of the Varsity’s excellent academic performance in 2018-19 when he was the Vice-Chancellor, former KSOU VC Prof. D. Shivalingaiah has expressed happiness for KSOU’s achievement and recognition.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday, Prof. Shivalingaiah, who was VC of KSOU from 2016 to 2019, said that the UGC has granted a high ranking to KSOU for its academic excellence in 2018-19, when he was the VC.
Pointing out that the UGC published its evaluation report of the University on Jan. 23, 2022, he said KSOU has secured 300 out of 400 marks, which resulted in KSOU getting a high ranking.
Enumerating the performance of the University when he served as its VC, Prof. Shivalingaiah said that the University had maintained fiscal prudency.
Pointing out that more than 30 courses were either introduced or re-started during his tenure, he said that a student grievances cell was set up for the first time and the Centre for Internal Quality Assessment (CIQA) was established. Maintaining that the University started online admissions for the first time in 2018, he said that over 12,000 students had then enrolled in a short span of time.
Stressing on the need for the Open University to focus more on increasing admissions, he observed that now, with the implementation of NEP (National Education Policy), the KSOU should make immediate and appropriate efforts to get NAAC recognition as soon as possible.
