KSRTC bus runs over PU student

Accident near Silver Jubilee Clock Tower; 17-year-old was riding pillion with father

Mysuru: A Second PU student, riding pillion on a scooter with her father, was killed on the spot when a KSRTC bus hit their vehicle from behind and ran over her head at the Ashoka Road-Sri Harsha Road junction, near Silver Jubilee Clock Tower (Dodda Gadiyara), this morning.

The deceased has been identified as V. Vaishnavi (17), the only daughter of V. Venkatesh Nayaka and Jyothi, residents of N.R. Mohalla, near Maruthi Circle in the city.

Vaishnavi was pursuing her Second PU Science course at Sadvidya PU College.

At about 7.30 am today, Venkatesh was riding the scooter (KA-55-H-7338) from Ashoka Road towards Chamaraja Circle, with a KSRTC bus (KA-09-F-5706) following them.

When they reached the Ashoka Road-Sri Harsha Road junction, the bus reportedly hit the scooter from behind, throwing both father and daughter onto the road. The bus ran over Vaishnavi’s head, killing her on the spot. Venkatesh sustained injuries to his left hand and was shifted to a private hospital in the city.

Devaraja Traffic Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted a mahazar and shifted the body to the MMC&RI mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case, seized both vehicles involved in the accident and taken up further investigation.

Several eyewitnesses and members of the public said, the accident occurred while a photo shoot was underway at the spot and that the accident was caused by distraction. However, the Police have ruled out the photo shoot as a cause of the accident and pointed to the rash driving of the KSRTC bus driver.
