Mysore/Mysuru: The Joint Action Committee of KSRTC Workers Unions has demanded a hike in wages with retrospective effect from Jan. 1, 2020.
A resolution was passed to this effect at the ‘Transport Workers Awareness’ (Saarige Noukarara Jagruthi) Convention held at Town Hall in city on Wednesday.
Addressing the Convention, KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation General Secretary D.A. Vijayabhaskar said soaring prices of essential commodities and rising inflation has pushed the workers to difficulties. As such, the State Government should revise wages with effect from Jan. 1, 2020, he said while demanding that there should be no more delays in this regard.
Accusing the Government of threatening workers who took part in the strike seeking fulfilment of long-pending demands, Vijayabhaskar said that a few workers committed suicide by hanging themselves in the BMTC bus depots at Bengaluru because of threats and harassment.
Lashing out at the Government for caring little for transport employees, he said that the Government has been inhumane towards the plight of KSRTC workers and employees. He reiterated that the Government should hike wages and resolve all other issues concerning the workers.
All Karnataka KSRTC Workers Federation General Secretary Jayadevraje Urs, KSRTC and BMTC United Employees Union leaders K.R. Vijaykumar and Venkataramanappa and CITU leader Manjunath too spoke.
Union leaders M.P. Nagaprasad, B. Devaraje Urs, Mallikarjun Murthy, M.V. Shivakumar, Mahadevaswamy and others were present.
