Kurubas demand ST tag

Bengaluru: The Shepherds India International has demanded Scheduled Tribe (ST) tag for Kuruba community which is spread across the country under different names.

The fifth annual convention of Shepherds India International held in the State Capital of Friday, passed a resolution urging the Government to include Kuruba Community in ST list.

Presiding over the convention, MLC  A.H. Vishwanath, who is also the President of the Association, said that Kuruba community is spread across the country and is called in different names.

Stating that efforts are underway to bring every Shepherd (Kuruba) community under one fold, he said that according to an estimate, there are 12 crore community members in the country. The convention urged the Union Government to list the community under ST category, he noted.

Community leaders from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal and other States attended the convention.
