Kushalnagar Taluk formed; Kodagu now has five taluks

Government issues final notification; process of infrastructure identification, appointment of officers set in motion

Bengaluru/Kushalnagar: The Government has notified — final notification — Kushalnagar Taluk and with this, a new Taluk has come into existence in Kodagu. Kodagu now has five Taluks — Madikeri, Virajpet, Ponnampet, Somwarpet and Kushalnagar.

The Government had recently notified Ponnampet Taluk and it came into existence with the infrastructure being developed at Ponnampet, the taluk headquarters. The Kushalnagar Taluk has been carved out of  Somwarpet Taluk.

For Kushalnagar Taluk, the initial notification was issued on Nov. 20, 2020 by the Revenue Department and the notification was in force for 30 days within which people could file objections, if any. As there were no objections, the final notification has been issued yesterday.

The demand for a separate taluk has been growing over the years since residents find travelling 27-km to Somwarpet to get their work done to be a waste of time.

According to notification, the boundaries of the proposed Kushalnagar Taluk will include Mysuru Taluk of Mysuru District (East), Madikeri Taluk of Kodagu District (West), Somwarpet Taluk of Kodagu District (North) and Virajpet Taluk of Kodagu District (South).
