Labour Day celebrated in city

Mysuru:  International Labour Day was celebrated by various organisations in different parts of the city yesterday by holding events and taking out rallies.

Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day and May Day, is celebrated on May 1 in India to pay tributes and respect to workers.

Some of the organisations which participated included AITUC, CITU, AIUTUC, Builders Association of India (BAI) and Karnataka State Government Daily Labour and Honorarium Workers Mahamandal.

In a few places, workers and their families participated in sports and other activities, while a few took out rallies.

At Mahajana College Grounds in Jayalakshmipuram, BAI and Mysore Builders Charitable Trust jointly celebrated Labour Day.

More than 500 workers and their families participated in running race, shot-put, tennis ball throwing and tug-of-war games. International Volleyball player H.N. Hemalatha inaugurated the BAI event.  Bigg Boss fame Suma Rajkumar and Nivedita Gowda participated in the valedictory. More than 400 workers were felicitated.

Mypol workers and the Administration wing celebrated May Day at Jaganmohan Palace auditorium.  Mypol Managing Director M. Vijaykumar, Joint Managing Director S.R. Parthasarathy, Managing Director C.D. Nagarajan, AITUC District Secretary H.R. Sheshadri were present.

Karnataka State Government Daily Labour and Honorarium Workers Mahamandal and a few other organisations had organised a convention of organised and un-organised workers at Veene Sheshanna Bhavan.

District Labour Court Judge N.M. Ravi, Labour Commissioner A.G. Srivalli and others participated.

Rallies: The Joint Committee of Trade Unions (JCTU)  had jointly organised a rally.

The rally which began in front of the Town Hall, passed through Gandhi Square, K.T. Street, Irwin Road, Ashoka Road and culminated at the Town Hall.
