Labourer bludgeoned to death

Mysur: Miscreants, in a drunken state, have allegedly bludgeoned a labourer to death at Lalithadri Layout in Gungral Chatra in the taluk on Saturday night.

The deceased is Ranganayaka (50), a resident of Kumbarakoppal in city. Ranganayaka, who used to climb coconut trees and pluck tender coconuts for a living, had been to Gungral Chatra on Saturday and after consuming liquor at a bar there, he slept in front of the bar. Meanwhile, a group of miscreants, who came near the bar late night, assaulted Ranganayaka and killed him by hitting his head with a boulder.

The murder came to light when security guard Kempaiah came to the bar yesterday morning and immediately informed the matter to Yelwal Police. Yelwal Police, who rushed to the spot, summoned the Dog Squad and Fingerprint experts. The sniffer dogs moved in the surroundings and returned back besides giving clues that the miscreants had moved in the surroundings of the bar.

It is suspected that the miscreants may have come to commit robbery at the bar and on seeing Ranganayaka sleeping in front of the bar, they might have murdered him. The incident has been captured through the CCTV camera installed outside the bar and the miscreants have destroyed the CCTV camera fearing that they would be caught. But the footage has been stored in the hard disk of the computer and the Police have expressed confidence that they would arrest the killers soon.
