Labourer held for murder of co-worker

Mysore/Mysuru: Udayagiri Police have arrested a 43-year-old construction labourer in connection with the murder of Mohammad Umar (37) in Udayagiri.

The accused, identified as Babu, son of Qasim Sab and a native of K.T.J. Nagar in Davanagere, was residing in a rented room at Kyathamaranahalli.

According to the Police, Babu and Umar, a resident of Ghousianagar, worked together as construction labourers. After work, the two consumed alcohol regularly and often slept outside bars. Umar was said to be addicted to alcohol and frequently demanded money from Babu.

On the morning of May 5, Umar again reportedly asked Babu for money, leading to a heated argument between the two. In a fit of rage, Babu allegedly picked up a paving stone lying nearby and smashed Umar on the head, killing him on the spot.

Udayagiri Police Station officers said that the accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is in progress.
