Lack of infrastructure: Maharani’s Science College students stage protest

Mysuru: Alleging that the College was lacking in necessary infrastructure, more than 20 students of Maharani’s Science College, under the banner of All India Mahila Samskruthika Sanghatane (AIIMS) staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here this morning.

Claiming that the laboratories in the College were non-functional even after 15 days of start of the College and that the College lacked basic amenities such as toilets and drinking water, the protesters urged the authorities to fully equip the laboratories and also construct more toilets for the benefit of students.

They also alleged that the existing two toilets were unhygenic and were maintained very poorly.

They further alleged that the College was overcrowded with more than 4,000 students admitted this year, which is more than double the sanctioned student strength of 1,500.

Even as the students staged the demonstration, AIMSS District Secretary P. Sandhya claimed that the students were threatened and warned by the College authorities against participation in the protest. AIMSS office-bearers Sheela, Shobha and others led the demonstration.
