Lack of study materials in Kannada irks KDA Chief Prof. Siddaramaiah

KDA Chairman Prof. S.G. Siddaramaiah at a review meeting at Kabini Guest House auditorium in ATI premises in city this morning as ATI Director-General and Additional Chief Secretary Sandeep Dave, senior theatre artiste Rajashekar Kadamba and others look on.

Mysuru: Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has been receiving a lot of complaints from trainees at Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in Mysuru that the study materials are not in Kannada, said KDA Chairman   Prof. S.G. Siddaramaiah.

He was interacting with nearly 80 trainees belonging to the Excise Department at the Kabini Guest House auditorium in the ATI premises on Lalitha Mahal Palace Road this morning and said that though the order to implement Kannada as Administrative language was done as early as in 2003, not much progress has been made in this regard.

Taking strong objection to the website of ATI which shows only English, he wondered why no efforts had been made to change the website into Kannada. ATI Director-General and Additional Chief Secretary Sandeep Dave asked for 20 days time as the Kannada website was getting ready for which Siddaramaiah agreed. He asked the trainees whether training was being imparted in Kannada by the resource persons who visit ATI and most of them said that a majority were using Kannada while a few used both English and Kannada.

ATI Joint Director V. Bhagyalakshmi pointed out that most of the trainees have knowledge of Kannada, while a few do not have and hence there are study materials both in Kannada   and English.

Prof. Siddaramaiah cautioned that since ATI provided a solid foundation for the trainees, they must use only Kannada as the administrative language.

KDA Secretary Dr. Muralidhara, Personal Secretary Dr. Veerashetty, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H. Channappa, former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Chandrashekar, Kannada Implementation Committee Member M.B. Vishwanath, ATI Deputy Director H.S. Yashaswini, Assistant Executive Engineer G. Harish and others were present.
