Lacklustre response turns yoga rehearsal for Corporators a damp squib

Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath and MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag are seen performing asanas along with Corporators during the Yoga rehearsal at Palace premises.

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), in association with Yoga Federation of Mysore (YFM), had organised yoga rehearsal at Mysore Palace premises this morning in the connection with the International Day of Yoga (IDY) to be held on June 21.

The rehearsal was organised exclusively for the Corporators and officers of MCC. The  motive was good to bring Corporators for yoga who in turn could motivate their followers so as to substantially swell the number of participants on June 21 for IDY to be organised at Race Course.

However, today’s rehearsal turned a damp squib with only 19 Corporators out of 65 turning up for the event and a couple of officers all totalling to a paltry 35 or 50 out of them a few women were clad in sarees which is obviously not suitable to perform Yoga, a clear indication of lack of interest or say common sense.

The programme was inaugurated by Mayor Pushpalata Jagannath. Dy. Mayor Shafi Ahmed, MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag, Additional Commissioner Shivananda Murthy, Health Officers Dr. D.G. Nagaraj, Dr. Jayanth, Corporators B.V. Manjunath, Shivakumar and others participated in the rehearsal.

Yoga experts Srihari, Dr. B.G. Murthy, Ganesh Kumar and Ranganath conducted the rehearsal. When the Mayor was questioned about the lacklustre response for the rehearsal, she said that probably the Corporators were apprehensive over performing yoga or they could be pre-occupied.
