Lacuna in biometric updating process at Aadhaar Seva Kendra

September 1, 2023

Sir,

I visited Aadhaar Seva Kendra, operated by UIDAI in Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, on 13.6.2023 to update my biometrics. My Aadhaar number is xxxx-xxxx-9489. Original date of issue is 26.1.2011. I received updated card on July 20, 2023.

I wish to bring to your notice a lacuna while going through the process of updating.

1. The person doing the work of updating does not inform the customer whether the biometrics of fingers have been successfully captured so as to replace the old ones in the central server and to be used for authentication later. Face and iris may have been updated successfully as indicated in the acknowledgement form  containing money receipt given to the customer.

2. Failure to update the finger biometrics leads to a lot of problems at other service centres like ration shops, electricity offices or any others who insist on proof of identity based on Aadhaar number authentication using finger print sensing machines only. Thus, the very objective of updating is defeated.

These centres are not provided with iris sensors or facial recognition equipment to complete the process of authentication.

3. Because of this lacuna, many lady house-heads have to forego Gruha Lakshmi registration and have to do many trips to service centres with a hope that one day the e-kyc process  will be completed.

Will the Aadhaar Seva Kendra urgently look into the issue and instruct the persons at the desk to be more co-operative and patient till all the ten fingers’ biometric is successfully captured afresh for storage and future use.
