Lane discipline needed at Rly. level crossing

Sir,

The chaotic situation at Railway level crossings was well-highlighted by a reader in SOM dated Mar. 11. This is mainly due to lack of discipline and common sense in vehicle-users.

Many times I see even cars and autos going up to the gate and blocking the traffic. Some are adamant  and even after telling to join the line, they quietly ignore and create problem there. It is not understandable why people do not follow lane discipline even at level crossings.

This type of hurry to cross by going up to the gate thus blocking the movement of other side vehicles after opening gate may further delay. Those who are in a hurry can use alternate roads, as most of the citizens know the gate closing timings or start early.

I have not seen anywhere in the country Traffic Police manning Railway level crossings. People should have patience and follow lane discipline and wait for their turn to come to cross the gate.
