Sir,
The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), in the recent last few months, is laying drain slabs in major commercial establishment areas, in front of shops, digging, removing the concrete and laying new slab stones.
Though the said work seems good from outside, it has certain lacunae. In the event of blockage or choking of drains, MCC has to cut open these drain slabs, which may cause loss in terms of damage to the slabs, inserting new slabs and also blocking the pedestrian or walkway unfit for reuse for some time.
Recently I had been to Ernakulam in Kerala, wherein I could notice that typical arrangement is carried out by the local administration where after every two or three slabs, provision for a drain cover is made and this can be opened in the event of any blockage of drain (see picture)
Hope the MCC can also think on these lines and save time and tax-payers’ money.
