‘Leadership is about vision, inspiration, positive impact’

Former CFTRI Director Dr. V. Prakash at workshop on leadership and social development

Mysore/Mysuru: Eminent scientist, former Director of CFTRI, a distinguished scientist of CSIR-India and Padma Shri Awardee Dr. V. Prakash recently addressed a gathering at a ‘Workshop on Leadership and Social Development and Release of Book – Legacy of a Legend – Dr. Olinda Pereira, a Pioneer in Social Work Education and Practice’.

The event was held at the EMMRC Auditorium, Manasagangothri and was organised by the Centre for Leadership & Social Development in association with the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, Department of Social Work, University of Mysore and the National Institute of Personnel Management, Mysore Chapter.

In his remarks, Dr. Prakash emphasised that leadership is not just about holding a position of authority, but also about having a vision, inspiring others, and creating a positive impact on those around us. He also highlighted the leadership qualities of the Hoysala Dynasty, which led to the construction of exceptional monuments such as Belur in the 14th century.

Dr. Prakash also mentioned that the younger generation possesses the energy, enthusiasm and creativity to drive progress and positive change. He encouraged the younger generation to nurture their abilities, exhibit a keenness to learn and develop leadership qualities to become leaders of tomorrow.

He also gave examples of initiatives such as the mid-day meal scheme in rural areas, which were initiated without a leader and were successful in promoting education and nourishment.

Retired Professor of Economics and Co-operation from the University of Mysore Dr. M. Indira, spoke about the importance of social development indicators and the role of Governments, non-governmental agencies and corporates in promoting human and community development.

She stressed the need for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to take input from professionally

qualified personnel and the importance of impact assessments of CSR programmes.

During the event, S.N. Gopinath, Managing Trustee, provided a briefing about the Centre for Leadership & Social Development (CLSD) Trust where he explained the Trust’s objectives, motto and the activities that the trust undertakes. He also mentioned the members who support the Trust.

The book “Legacy of a Legend – Dr. Olinda Pereira, A Pioneer in Social Work Education & Practice” was introduced by Ravichandra Bekal. The book explores the impact and experiences of Dr. Olinda Pereira on various personalities who were involved in her life. It sheds light on her contributions as a pioneer in social work education and practice.

Chairperson of the Department of Social Work at the University of Mysore Dr. H.P. Jyothi and Vice-Principal of Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru Dr. Jenis Mary also shared their insights.

Manager, HR & Admin, Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, Santhosh Shetty welcomed the gathering, Bhima Rao proposed a vote of thanks and the event was anchored by HR Head of Automotive Axles Ltd., Mysuru, Shwetha Shetty.
