Mysuru: The Department of English, Teresian College, Siddarthanagar, had recently organised a lecture at the College premises to pay tribute to the Nobel Laureate and Booker Prize winner V.S. Naipaul, who passed away on Aug.11 at the age of 85.
Both UG and PG students attended the programme which started with an introduction to Naipaul by Tanvi Muthamma of II M.A English. She gave a brief note on the author, which detailed on his biography, works, biographer and his contribution to India. The resource person was introduced by Nalini Xavier, HoD, UG Department of English.
Dr. A.S. Dasan, former Chairman, DoS in English, University of Mysore, spoke on ‘V.S. Naipaul: A Writer of Triple Identities.’ He aided the students to traverse through the books of Naipaul. Dr. Dasan helped them dissect and categorise the books as the most prominent, most brilliant and greatly read works.
Throwing light on identity, colonized, colonizer and diaspora, he specified the usage of certain terms with reference to colonial studies. He concluded the lecture by drawing everyone’s attention to the last few hours of the death of Naipaul.
