Awareness programme on ‘POCSO Act, NDPS Act and The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act’ held in city
Mysuru: District Judge and Member-Secretary of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) H. Shashidhara Shetty has said it is essential for every public to be aware of law.
He was speaking after inaugurating a legal awareness programme on the topic ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) and The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act’, organised by KSLSA in association with Judicial Services Department and Mysore Bar Association, at Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala auditorium in city on Monday.
Explaining the significance of conduct in acceptance with law, Judge Shetty underlined that ‘Nobody should show audacity to violate the law. It is essential for everyone to have legal awareness and there will be no amnesty for those who commit crime even with ignorance of law.’
One should ride/ drive the vehicle only after attaining the legally permitted age of 18 years, by obtaining a valid licence. In addition, one should learn swimming and cycling too. There are instances of families who suffer due to the violation committed by minor caught while riding or driving vehicles, he said.
Advising youths to be more cautious in life, without coming under corrupt influences, Judge Shetty said, youngsters should be careful while using social media. ‘No matter if one doesn’t read books at home, but should not be addicted to cell phone,’ he said.
Now, there is no necessity to wage a war to destroy a nation, it is suffice to annihilate a country by making the youths of that country addicted to narcotics drugs. If anybody comes across the sales and consumption of drugs, they should inform the Police, advised Judge Shetty.
About 7,000 cases are booked under NDPS Act across the State, while 10 narcotic drugs manufacturing units have been busted at 10 prominent cities including Mysuru. What is more alarming is, the peddling of drugs near school and college campuses.
Over 8,000 POCSO cases have been booked in the State and the number of such cases are increasing with every passing day. Shockingly, apart from the girls, even the boys are facing sexual harassment, he rued.
President of Mysore Bar Association S. Lokesh said, ‘While Gen-Z children are known for their intelligence quotient, they lack experience. They should hear the advise from elders and teachers.’
President of Vijaya Vittala Institutions R. Vasudev Bhat also spoke. Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of Mysuru District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) Nagaraj Siddappa Ankasadoddi, State Legal Services Authority Deputy Secretary M. Sridhar, Heartfullness Institution’s K. Madhusudhan, Hon. Secretary of Vijaya Vittala C.A. Vishwanath and Principal S.A. Veena were present.
