Legal Metrology officials raid shops, seize 14 tampered weighing machines

Mysore/Mysuru: The officials of the Legal Metrology Department, who conducted surprise raids on shops at various markets on Thursday, have warned shopkeepers against cheating customers and have seized 14 tampered weighing scales and machines, which were showing excess weight. A team of officials led by Legal Metrology Department K.M. Mahadevaswamy, visited shops at Devaraja Market, M.G. Road Market and roadside vendors on Sayyaji Rao Road and inspected the weighing machines. 

The raids were conducted following a complaint to Legal Metrology Department Deputy Controller M.S. Ramaiah, that a few shopkeepers in various markets were cheating customers in weight. 

Mahadevaswamy said that such raids would continue and warned that first the weighing machines of shops cheating customers would be seized and added that if the shopkeepers continue cheating customers, legal action would be initiated against them.
