Leopard cub dies during fight with wild boar

Begur: The carcass of a leopard cub with injuries on its neck sustained during a fight with a wild boar was found near the fields belonging Venkataiah at the foot of Neelidasanabetta near Kurubarahundi in Gundlupet.

The Forest Department personnel, who were on beat found the carcass of the cub aged about 7 to 8 months and immediately informed Omkar Rage Forest Officer Naveen Kumar, who along with ACF Ravikumar rushed to the spot, examined the carcass of the cub and suspected that the cub had died of injuries in a fight on Friday night.

Veterinarian Dr. Nagaraj conducted the post-mortem after which the carcass of the leopard cub was burnt in the presence of Forest Officials Ravikumar, Mylarappa, and others.

Following the finding of the carcass of the cub, panic gripped among the villagers as they have found the mother moving in the surroundings of the village. Farmer K.J. Mahesh said that farmers were afraid of going to their fields.

The Forest Department personnel have placed a cage at the foot of Neelidasanabetta to trap the mother leopard, said RFO Naveen Kumar.
