Leopardess gets caught in snare, dies

Nanjangud: A two-year-old leopardess, which had got caught in a snare laid in an agricultural field belonging to one Chandrashekar at Koodlapura village in the taluk, has died.

Range Forest Officer (RFO) Kirankumar Karatangi said that a leopardess has died after getting caught in a snare at an agricultural field in the outskirts of Koodlapura and on inspection, 4 pug marks were found in the field.

The RFO further said that as the land owner was not present at the spot, a case has been filed under Cr.PC 200 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 against the land owner and the case will be handed over to the Court after conducting an investigation.

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Shivaramu, Forest Officer Janardhan and staff Manjunath and staff of Leopard Task Force were present.
