Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, leopards have killed two pet dogs recently. While one incident took place at Karakanahalli village near Yelwal in Mysuru taluk, another incident took place at Bebi village in Pandavapura taluk.
The incidents have created a sense of fear among the villagers, who are now afraid of moving around the villages fearing leopard attack.
In the first incident, which has been captured in a CCTV camera installed in front of the house of one Madan of Karakanahalli village, the leopard is seen chasing a pet dog, catching its neck and dragging it away.
Following the incident, the villagers urged Forest Department officials to capture the feline. The Forest officials, who visited the spot, conducted inspection and asked the villagers to inform them immediately if they spot the leopard again.
At Pandavapura: A pet dog, which was seriously injured in leopard attack during the wee hours of Feb. 24, underwent surgical procedures at a private veterinary hospital in Mysuru. Unfortunately, the dog succumbed to injuries on Feb. 25.
The mongrel is named Gunda, belonging to B.S. Girish of Bebi village in Pandavapura of Mandya district.
At about 3 am on Feb. 24, Girish heard the unusual barking and whining of Gunda. When Girish came out of the house, he saw the leopard holding the neck of Gunda and trying to drag it away. Girish immediately screamed and made loud noises scaring the leopard away. But Gunda had sustained serious injuries.
Girish immediately rushed Gunda to Shree Pet Hospital at Vijayanagar in city where Dr. H.V. Deepak inspected Gunda and took an X-Ray which revealed tracheal rupture with Gunda in shock.
Dr. Deepak and his team performed a three hour-long surgery to fix the damaged trachea and kept Gunda under observation as an inpatient, but to no avail.
