Dhruvakumar, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, DHO Dr. Basavaraj, Corporator Balasubramanaya (Snake Shyam), and others look on.

Mysuru: MLA M.K. Somashekar  launched a demonstration and awareness programme on dengue eradication, organised by ‘Swachcha Karnataka – Arogya Karnataka’ at Gandabherunda Park next to Jayamma Govindegowda Kalyanamantap on Udayaravi Road in Kuvempungar this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Somashekar said mosquito menace was the main cause for the spread of dengue and it has been found that ‘Limia’ and ‘Guppy’ species of fish consume mosquito larvae, thus reducing the menace.

Underlining the need for the rearing of these two fish species in every household, Somashekar said the fish can be reared in tubs and small tanks also.

Suggesting the authorities to rear these two fish species at fountains installed in circles across the city, the MLA said the MCC and the health department were taking all necessary steps for ending the menace.

Pointing out that the MCC has taken up fogging in a bid to contain mosquito menace, the MLA called for the co-operation of all associations and organisations for the eradication of dengue.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said that the District administration, MCC and Health Department were working  in tandem to put an end to the disease.

Highlighting the need for sensitizing the people on the preventive measures to be taken to control the spread of the disease, the DC said it was important that all stake-holders worked with perfect co-ordination.

‘Swachcha Karnataka – Arogya Karnataka’ pioneer Dr. V.S. Somashekar Gowda presented a demonstration on rearing of ‘Limia’ and ‘Guppy’ species of fish in tubs and water tanks.
